In
my view, being fair, honest and trustworthy is not enough
alone - having an ethical conscience however is something
that I consider in addition to be far more reaching and
beneficial to my clients. To me, being ethical is central
to my nature - simply because I believe in it!
It is a growing belief that investing ethically can change
our world for the better. With nearly 7 billion people now
inhabiting our planet, I believe we all must take our fair
share of responsibility for the welfare of our children,
wildlife and environment. For
most of my adult life I have made a conscious effort to
help reduce my own eco footprint - as a consequence I hold
face-to-face meetings only when requested or really necessary,
using alternative methods where possible - such as telephone,
video-conferencing and email. It goes without saying that
I run an environmentally conscious office - such as reducing
energy consumption and recycling waste, using office supplies
that are made from recycled or sustainable materials wherever
possible, and although impossible to be 100% paper-free,
I endeavour to use electronic alternatives where possible,
such as secure email, the scanning of documents, electronic
data storage and product applications.
During
my time as an Independent Financial Adviser, I have aided
most of my clients to invest ethically; but I believe in
leading by example, and as such, since 1995 all my own investments
have been invested in Socially Responsible Investments (SRI's).
Unfortunately
public awareness of the existence of green and ethical investment
is still too low; according to consumer research by 72Point
Ltd for F&C Asset Management Plc in December 2006, 'less
than half of the UK public (46%) are aware of stock market
funds that allow them to invest ethically!' My aim
therefore, is to help promote the existence of investing
more ethically and the changes we can all make individually
and collectively – changes that can make a difference
to our world and the one we leave for our forebears!
I
believe in giving my clients a choice by providing access
to alternative advice in all areas of ethical and socially
responsible investment and holistic financial planning.
This is just one reason why over the years my clients have
recommended my services to their families, friends and colleagues.
Since
becoming a Financial Adviser in 1988, I have had many positive
and heart-felt comments from new and existing clients which
have made my work feel a whole lot more gratifying. Here
are some examples - the originals for which are held on
file;
'...I
would really like to thank you again for the professional
way you have advised and handled my financial affairs...'
Ms
J. Murray, Scottish Borders.
'David
has been a great help to me over the years advising me on
various financial matters. His work is thorough and professional.
I would have no hesitation in recommending David to anyone
needing advice on investing and mortgages.'
Mr.
A. Graham, Staffordshire.
'My
family and I have used David for the last ten years or so.
I value his advice and he has helped us make great savings
in our mortgage deals. This is all done within the context
of ethical investment, so a win-win situation.'
Mr
M. Butler, Edinburgh.
